When these tiny puppies arrived at All4Paws, they were in a desperate fight for survival against parvovirus—a highly contagious and deadly viral infection, yet one that can be treated if caught early. Thanks to the dedication of our team and the generosity of our supporters, they received the urgent care they needed—and they won their battle.
Mama Praline and her eight 4-week-old puppies were rescued from a life beneath a house in Latta and brought to an All4Paws foster home to begin their new chapter. Just as they were settling in, foster mom Amy noticed that Jessie (pictured above, right) was showing some signs of sickness.
Testing confirmed Jessie had parvo, and it became clear that her siblings had also been exposed. Jessie and her seven littermates returned to the rescue, where they were placed in our specialized quarantine building. To ensure their safety, each puppy was separated into individual kennels and monitored closely for symptoms. All eight puppies received the parvo monoclonal antibody—a groundbreaking treatment designed to combat the virus.
The only two that ever showed extreme symptoms were Jessie and Luke. Luke perked up within a few days but Jessie needed fluids around the clock. She went home with one of our vet techs every night. After about a week and a half, she perked up as well. The week was full of ups and downs but Jessie’s resilient nature shined through. We kept them quarantined for two more weeks and then they all became available for adoption.
Their journey didn’t end there. After recovering, these eight little fighters and their mama found something even more precious: loving families to call their own. Today, they are all thriving, cuddled up in warm beds, and showered with the love they deserve.
This is why we do what we do. This is what your donations make possible. Thank you to everyone who helped give them a second chance! If you’d like to support more lifesaving work like this, consider donating, fostering, or adopting.
